Good luck, def keep us up to date on the details!
drop ins were added after shep had the head pulled - and he had inspected/measured the bores and advised on moving towards drop in's over leaving the stock pistons/rods in due to common failures. There is approx 400 miles on the motor.

And they provide an amazing ride.. no more rear end thump.. etc.. its a worthwhile install.

I'll tell you what Will. You are seriously taking this very well. I know I would have been a little more than mad if this had happened to me. Not at anyone in particular, but mad in general.

Now you see why my DSM took 3 years to build, and still leaks oil... I seriously get too mad at inanimate objects lol. Seriously though something HAD to be messed up for it to let go that damn quick. If you were having that much trouble with seeing knock I am willing to bet that the issue was there from the beginning, but was just inaudible to you or anyone else. Too few miles for it to be "abuse". It is either faulty equipment or improper installation IMHO.

Just saw the posts, been busy as hell with this remodel at the shop.

To say it was a hell of a rough day would be an understatement. The guys showed up early for the dyno appointment. They needed injectors put in but the service side of the shop was closed for this entire week and the bays were full. I told them they were welcome to put them in on the dyno before we got started. Shortly after starting they found out why we don't use a particular injector, they don't fit. So a set of ID1000's were used instead and put in. BTW, the ID1000's, this is the first set I tuned on the stock ECU and they are as amazing as the ID2000's, very impressed.

I wanted to use the ROM that Rogue had in the car. I was surprised to find it had the latest Tephra V7 rom in it. Since the car was already running I set the injector latencies up for the new ID1000's and changed some other basic parameters. Car seemed to run really well. Then it was time to take a look at the fuel and timing maps so I could make the first pull..............the map was scrambled and corrupted. How the car ran semi- correctly is beyond me. So the work I put into the car already was all for nothing. I had a V7 rom here to load in the car, loaded it and the car would not start. Seemed like an immobilizer issue to me but that appeared to check out. I had to stop, forward the rom to Jester and have him see if he could figure out why it wouldn't work. A short time later my master go to guy fixed the issue and sent it back.

The timing map was extremely low when I started and the fuel map was extremely rich. Dyno was set up to shut off at 5500 on the first pull. AFR's showed high 9's, the car had a considerably high knock count. I checked the timing, pulled some more out on spool up and figured the knock was from the overly rich condition. I pulled a bunch of fuel out. Still had knock. I fought this issue for a lot of pulls. BTW, the base boost was 15 psi through all of this. I finally got the car quiet enough and the AFR's dialed in about 11.7:1 to turn up the boost. I turned the boost up to about 21, power climbed but not as much as I expected. More timing changes and more tuning. The car simply would not run over 25 psi of boost without knocking and the timing at that level was so low I knew something was wrong. Finally ended up in the 390 range at 25 psi, AFR's about 11.5:1 and very low timing to get there. I don't usually review datalogs and such with customers but in this case something just wasn't right and we had been working on the car for about 7 hours at this point. I showed the guys that the knock counts were under 2 and the timing curve.

I was of course asked, "What do you think is wrong?" Well I had stopped 2-3 times during the pulls to get out and listen to the engine, the only noise I heard the entire time was what I can only describe as if you magnified the fuel injector firing noise my 10 times. Sounded a bit odd from the start but didn't get louder and was just "odd". Could be light piston slap noise too but didn't really sound like it. I then told them that no matter what I said about the car I was going to sound like some asshole hater because the parts I'd blame for any problems weren't BR parts and that always looks bad. I finally gave some suggestions and off they went.

1.5 miles down the road a real noise started and when they came back to the shop it's pretty obvious something in the engine is hurt. It sounds like a top end noise to me, more like a wrist pin than a rod.

We'll get the car apart in the next week or two and go from there.

I'm hoping the bilet crank 2.4 finds a home in the car, would love to see that engine with the FP Red.

Sorry it happened Rogue, cars sure are a kick to the balls once in awhile.

I got my fingers and toes crossed... 2.4 + red = a lotttta fun.

... Especially because it requires everything come out in "as best" possible condition.

A little off topic, but is that true? I thought he recommended them if dimensions checked out and the mileage was reasonable? Doesn't Dan run drop ins?

Rogue, good luck man, that thing is going to be sick!

I learned my lesson. David had said they have not had a single failure with any drop-ins they did.

Ill stick to a complete rebuild.
