    Default My 94 Tsi Project

So here are a few pictures of the car the shell I picked up. The story behind the car is that it is actually be second project we'll get to that later, but I picked this car up off of Joe from Slowboy when they moved to florida. Supposedly its one of curt brown's old cars, but we'll see. Pretty much was a bare bones shell when I got it. As of right now I removed the whole rear subframe and repainted it with por15 and installed new poly bushings and a 4 bolt rear end. Also picked up a set of evo 9 wheels of my buddy dan killa for it. My goal right now is to make it to the shootout next year.

Looks like a pretty clean shell. And that's rare.

I have a bunch of stuff going on with the car right now.
The head is at the machinists getting surfaced and new vavle guides installed, and he also has my set of 1g rods with 2g pistons that he is installing arp's on.
Just picked a full apex'i n1 exhaust for the car.
Need to pull the driveshaft out of my 90 tsi aswell as the seatS.
Also painted the motor mounts and installed some prothanes.

Ya car is definitely light no crash bars in the doors, no bumpers, no carpet padding, no heat shields under the car. Thanks for saving me some work lol. My goal is to just get the car together with a basic setup for now so I have less issues to deal with, and then start upgrading from there. Initially everything will be done by myself motor, turbo, etc. Then I gotta save for that buschur stage 3 motor.

So today I went and pulled a bunch of stuff off my old rusted shell all of which only has about 100 miles on it. I pulled the rear calipers and rotors, e-brake cables, ST rear sway bar,my battery relocation kit, relay for my fuel pump, driveshaft and hatch struts.

Well I went to work on the cars this morning and discovered that the front drive shaft carrier bearing studs were removed from my shell, probably because it had an aluminum drive shaft shop piece on there at some point. needless to say i spent most of my morning removing the brackets off of my 90 shell.

Got my shortblock all assembledthe other morning Rods and mains plastigauged in the .002" range just a tad smaller actually which is at the loose end of spec. Piston to wall clearance came out to .0025 or.0028 can't remember now I've them written down in the gargae. Ring gaps are .016 on top and .022 on the 2nd. This is the first car engine I've ever built so we'll see how long it lasts until I can buy a built motor from buschur.
