Default A few AEM questions from a total newb.....

I'm a complete newb to the AEM software. I bought a 06 EVO MR that had it already installed. It has a pump gas map and a race gas map. Both tuned by AMS. I've had the car for about 6 months and decided to finally start playing with it, not changing anything, but poking around, logging, and just trying to get a better understanding. I must say, the shit is pretty complex. I work as a test engineer and am familiar with several data acquisition software, but this is a little different. Oh, I also had Buschur check the 93 tune some time after buying the car. This was back in September. Enough back story though, let me get to my questions.

When David tuned it he upped the boost a little bit and I think leaned it out a tad too. Well I wanted to go back to the original more conservative AMS tune for the up coming cold weather. I connected to the ECU and it opened the calibration file that was on it...the one Buschur did. I then tried to save this file as David hadn't saved it on my laptop when he tuned it. Well it appears that didn't work. So now that file is lost. How do I save the calibration that is on the ECU? And David, if you happen to read this, do you have a copy of the cal file you did for me?

Secondly, this thing is boost spiking like a mofo. What can I do to prevent that? Is it unavoidable in the cold temps?

And lastly, sorry for the freaking novel, when the car is running, my AFR's on the laptop are reading in the 7's. Obviously that isn't right. My dash display is reading 14.7 at idle. Why the difference? How the hell can this thing even run if the AEM is seeing 7's!??

Sorry for all of the questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As soon as you connect just go to File, Save As and then save it as something. Then continue on with whatever it is you are trying to do. If I tuned the car on any stand alone I have the cal. file for it. I save all stand alone files.

I don't know what boost control you have, a big spike is usually caused by a poor boost controller though.

The AFR's being off in your map is because the Units are not set up correctly. You have to go into Configure, Units, then click on something other than what you want and then click back on the correct unit you want and hit apply. It's another PITA that isn't right with the AEM but it's minor, just have to set it up. You'll need to do load, afr and temp units.

Thanks for the quick replay man. I guess I panicked a little bit. After comparing the maps, it turns out I did save the calbration you did. So no worries there. Also good to hear about the AFR units, I'll have to play with that as well.

The boost controller is an AEM boost solenoid, controlled by the AEM. Are these not suited for cold weather? It never spiked in the summer like this.

I don't use any electronic boost controllers, I prefer a simple, good manual controller.

No shit? So there is no need to interface with the AEM?

If you want to continue using the AEM/MAC solenoid then yes you need to control it with the EMS. The boost solenoid can work very well but it is one of the more difficult things to deal with tuning on the AEM. I would do as David suggested and just slap a good MBC on there for now until you decide what you want to do.

Well the car was running and boosting great until the cold weather got here. Can I simply just lower the boost through the AEM? If so, how do I do that? If it would help, I can post up the calibration.

    Thanks in advance,

Yes, you can lower the boost through the AEM, depending on how it's set up it may be or may not be real easy. You can also put a good manual boost controller on it and be done.
