    Default COP with EMS

I have a 1G DSM and I am attempting to run Coil On Plug without a CDI, with a stock Igniter, and AEM's EMS. I have found so many threads that just seem to run around in a circle. I found a wiring diagram and some info on VFAQ that the driver wires have to be switched so the wire that would normally fire 1/4 will now fire 2/3. Why do they have to switch? Also, I keep having people mention the Dodge Viper coil dwell settings to fire the COP. If you wire the coils in series like all the diagrams I find show, your primary resistance is now 1.2 ohms (.6 ohms per coil) where the factory is .75-.95 ohms. How is that going to help with a shorter dwell time like that of the Viper? Now a Viper's coil packs are about .6 ohms already, so shouldn't I wire the coils 1/4 and 2/3 in parallel as opposed to series to gain any effect of using the Viper's coil dwell settings? Any thoughts on this subject will help.

This might be better suited in the DSM Forum but I figured anybody browsing this forum would be more knowledgable on the subject at hand. Thanx in advance.

Dont even bother running the COP without a CDI. You will blow the spark out. The COP alone is very weak.

I ran my AEM EMS, and Buschur COP without a CDI, and I had no problems on Q16 and 35psi. Once I switched to E85, I really needed the CDI. Car currently makes 678/496 on a dynojet.

Interesting... I was blowing the spark out at 30psi on q16 with just the BR COP and AEM EMS. But when I put the dynatek arc-2 on it solved the problem completely.

It's all in your dwell adjustment though too

Yeah I'm still learning AEM specific stuff... Mind sharing your dwell settings and what you have your coils set to if you have a COP?

I was running the Viper Dwell for just the COP and once I pluged in the TwinFire I had to run the All CDI Dwell from the wizard.

Did you just use the "Coil Dwell Wizard" and set it to Dodge Viper, and run it? Or did other adustments have to change since you are triggering 4 cylinders of spark instead of 10.

Just an update, I've been running my COP without a CDI for a little while now and it has been doing great. I am currently using some slightly modified Viper dwell settings that I configured on the dyno. I am making the switch to Klotz 118 this coming year and will see how the COP does with the more advanced timing.

I am running 37 psi with cop, stock igniter and ems. This is on E85 and a pte 6765, it is working great so far. I do Have a CDI sitting here for when I start blowing out spark.
