Default Evo X Buschur LICP (Cold Pipe) Constantly Blowing off

    Hi Everyone,

I am new to the X game, had a full bolt on e85 IX SE that was totaled.

I purchased a used set of Buschur charge pipes. The upper pipe / hot pipe seems fine, I don't think it can move much so there is not much to worry about there beyond a small leak. The lower pipe keeps blowing off at the throttle body.

I know some kits have braces to keep these pipes in place, but the Buschur kit does not. Sometimes these braces can disguise a leak, but they also help to prevent the pipe from blowing off and denting / ruining something. Coming from being used to Al piping (this kit is SS) I under-tightened the T-bolt clamps the first time on the LICP and, no surprise, they blew off at the TB and the IC pipe was on its way out also. After a second try the TB blew off again. I dropped the TB connection as far in as I could and fully cranked the T-bolt until it couldn't go any further. It held for a couple of quick pulls last night, but this morning after a thorough warm up it blew off again.

I can't tell if the clamp just can't grip well enough because of the bend at this location, or if I am doing something wrong. The bead isn't very large on these pipes, but with the clamp this far tightened I'm not sure how it could be blowing off. I really want to get this solved so I can get back to E85 soon.

Are there any secret tips or tricks for installing the Buschur LICP on the X?

    Thanks!

It's truly the first I've heard of one popping off. We typically re-use the stock clamps because it holds well enough, you are using a t-bolt so it makes no sense. First are you sure they are ours? Second are you sure it's the right pipe for your car? We've gone through three sets of lower i/c pipes, first for 5 speeds that didn't fit the MR then the Ralliart that was different, now we have one universal that fits them all. Which car do you have?

I run our standard pipe on my car and run it at 30 psi, I've never lost a pipe.

I'm running a GSR X W / SSS. The pipes definitely look like your pipes and couplers (but they were short one coupler for IC to LICP). The clamps that came with it were a mix of IDEAL, AEM, and stock. The person I purchased them from was doing a part out of exhaust, IC, intake, charge piping, and a few other Buschur parts. I can PM you the name on the box and/or the name I paypal'ed if it helps.

I wasn't aware of the difference between the pipes when I ordered, but I did notice the site had MR / GSR versions afterward. According to the pics that user has posted it should be off a GSR X, but I can't be for sure when it was purchased. They did have Buschur stickers on their car and the rest of their parts looked legit.

They may have clamped on the bead on all of the pipes, but they all look very similar and based on the clamp marks on the couplers I don't think that is what happened. None of them are very significant though.

The one strange thing was that it seemed like the TB was pointed slightly upward (when i would think it would be directly horizontal), but I couldn't tell if that was just bad perception because of the immediate downward curve in the LICP.

Is the pipe that connects to the IC outlet directional? I couldn't distinguish any difference in orientation.

Do you think I should just try a stock clamp? Anything else you can think of?

    Thanks David!
