Question Oil pressure dip after WOT run

This nonsense just happened to me today. What causes oil pressure to drop at idle right after WOT runs? My typical pressure is 20-23psi at 1200 rpm idle (big cams) using Amsoil Dominator 10W-30. Ripped on the car in 1st and 2nd then went back to normal driving and stalled making a right turn into a parking lot. Oil pressure dropped to 17psi. Shut off car, checked for any leaks or issues and found none. Started right back up and idled smooth again at 21-23psi. I know oil thins out after it gets hot. Mine was at about 195F. Any ideas?

Mine used to do the exact same thing after casual driving then slowing to a stop. Then I got a tune and the car doesn't die anymore, the oil pressure just drops to ~10 psi and jumps back up to a steady ~20 psi at idle.

Yeah, I'm waiting on new FP Black before I get tuned, but it's the strangest thing. Just trying to figure out what exactly makes this happen.

Is your A/C on? Assuming you haven't changed the A/C on idle and cuise settings from the factory values since you were tuned for cams???

Also are you running an open element air filter without a heat shield? I've seen afr's go crazy due to really high under hood temps and stall cars.

The problem I think you are having is the car simply stalling and the RPM going low, which in turn causes the oil pressure to drop.

Other causes are no oil being left in the pan after a hard long pull. This can happen from the oil gettting up in the cylinder head and not draining back fast enough. It can also happen from the oil being pushed away from the pick up from the G-forces of stopping or accelerating/turning hard.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that the reason that Kiggly developed the HLA?

I screwed around a bit with my AEM EMS idle settings and replaced the oil pressure switch which was causing the damn light to come on at low rpms. Problem seems solved for now, but yes, the Kiggly HLA will be going into my new motor this Fall. Thanks for the help!

Yea Im considering adding in the HLA once I get my car back. Seems like a simple piece of hardware that does a great job at keeping excess out of the head.
