Default Finishing Up the Rest of The cage 10pt 1g dsm

Just another weekend at the house, trying to get out of my chores with the house and wife

Moving on , this has been a crazy weekend, well over 15 hours in actual work,

First thing Jeremy and I tackled was the halo section, We contoured the section and then tied up the front of the halo so that we could at least tack it in

showing it tied up , this worked out well, because we wanted the halo to be as tight to the roof line as possible.

Next up was the passenger A pillar. We had to cut the stock dash bar out of there as well
The picture below shows the stock dash bar being cut out.

Making sure our angles were correct with A pillars

The driver side A pillar tacked in

Next we had to take a picture of how the a pillars looked from outside, I think it turned out well.

We then removed the entire assembly out of the car, so that I could weld the a pillar joints. In the process of removing it, we cracked my windsheild

    Painted the thing next

Then we completely removed the stock dash bar

Now we reinstalled the cage and welded it all in. Here is the final product from outside.

The next day we tackled the dash bar, I also had to weld it to the support for the steering wheel column.
The pictures below show it completed and primered.

Now I know my welds will be nothing like Rons or Trents, but I have a new respect for welders, I managed to get one of the hot embers burn a hole in my pants, which ended up searing my nut sack........ fuck that hurt
Next on the list, will be the wiring , yuck, Hope you enjoyed the little build, hope to see you all next month at the shootout

Patrick, you know it will never be "done" unfortunately, there will always be something or the other that needs work

thanks mullen... cages are just a general pain in the ass, welding inside a car, in 85 degree heat.. quite disgusting

Oh I forgot to show you guys my ricer wing, it still isn't finished yet, but here are the some shots of it
Dave will probably beat me with a stick when he sees this nonsense

This is post from another forum that I Frequent, It explains the thought process
I forgot to post these pictures of the car, when I took it out to pick up some take out food for my wife, boy did I get a lot of weird looks , when I was driving on the street.

So a good buddy of mine scott glassbrook, decided that he was going to place a drag wing on his talon. After I saw what he did, I decided that I would be copying his concept, however I would do mine just a little differently that him. I think it is important that I mention this, so that Scott gets his credit. So thank you scott for inspiring me to make a drag wing.

NHRA prostock wings, actually have some rules, the spill plates have to be at least 2 inches above the body line, and the wicker bill has to be a minimum of 3/4 inch. Also the total length of the wing, has to be 14 inches ( I'm not sure on that number) from the body line.

There has to be absolutely No downward plane, because this would actually introduce lift, vs downforce.

Now you may ask, why would a FWD car require downforce ?.. Don't worry, I asked myself that same question too. After having a discussion with Mr glassbrook, we agreed that even though my drive wheels were 12 to 13 feet infront of the wing, the rear of my car was very light, I would need some downforce, to actually keep the rear of the car planted during those 140 mph passes. Sounds logical ? , will it work ? I really have no idea, but it sure does sound good in theory.

alright enough of the theory that I normally spew... The following pictures are pretty self explanatory. My biggest concern is that I did not want to change the LOOK of the car, hence I choose the following materials
so here is a shot looking at the wing

My spill plates are made of lexan

I also made a little cover plate for the wiper hole

here is how my wing is a little different. See the little extension aluminum piece behind the stock wing ? Well that piece is actually on hinges,

I have not finished the wicker bill that will attach to this piece, basically I will be able to pitch the extention piece from 0 to 30 degrees, for different adjustments of downforce.

overall I am very pleased with the way it turned out, how it works only time will tell

hope you enjoyed the latest entry and I hope I have taken you back to some of my ricer roots. Have a good one,.

The old black Buschur Evo had a wing similar to that...but without the lexan. And a bit longer.

Nice work overall! Did you have the front section custom made(IE. your specs) or was it a pre-fabed piece?

As far as the wing goes, for a race car....function over form!

oh , the halo section was to my specifications. However, you can get pre bent pieces from S&W or your local chassis shop.. I hope that helps and there is no need to apologise.

    ^ thanks
    next up
    The endless headache of wiring.
The set up that I had before placed the switches, gauges and fuse block all on one panel. This worked out well, because I could disconnect everything that was electrically associated with the car by simply unplugging two deustch connectors.

However it was difficult to reach the switchs and to be honest looked a little busy, So I have started to separate all these various components out.

first up , placed the fuse block and main power connector on the kick panel. I only have 8 major circuits in the car, so this location was a perfect one for me.

next up, I built a small panel that attached to the dash bar, which holds the msd, karmen convertor and Ecu.

Prior to this all my electronic boxes were on the floor. When I had passengers with me, it was difficult for them to get in the car, so now it will be easier for them.

Last but certainly not least, the actual dash, It took me a while to figure out what exactly I wanted the layout to be, with a little creativity, I came up with this

simple yet very compact and functional

and what it looks like in the car

the view through the steering wheel

thats it for today, The switch panel and painting the interior is next on the endless list.
    have a good one.
