Default Misc work, wing, switch box, etc etc,

I am just going to use this thread for my project log from now on, If you guys are interested in some of the stuff that I do
Here was some work from the last 36 hours of wrenching.Enjoy

Talk about a 36 hour weekend of wrenching...
So bright and early on friday morning (my day off), I commenced with the work
first up was the switch panel where I started to sort out some of the wiring
    what a mess

    the basic layout,

then I painted the dash and it was time to begin the mounting to the dash bar

I made some tabs, determined the angles and rivet nutted the stands

    Mounted up

I then built a horizontal brace for the top section of the dash, and finished it off with stainless button head bolts and ss washers

after that I redid the parachute release cable, this time I chose to have a horizontal mount location, which definitely clears up some room

Then it was time to finish up the wing. I ended up cutting a bigger piece of aluminum, and breaking it to approximately 40 degrees when in the horizontal plane

    Then the hinges were completed,

I ended up with two locations,
the up position makes the wicker bill at 90 degrees

the down position for "less downforce"

We shall see how this works at the track.

The next thing I did was the change the seat bracket, I basically needed to lower it by about 2 inches, otherwise my skull would hit the halo,
SOOO... I made my wonderful wife get in the car with the helmet so I could take my measurements...she was not too pleased ( she is the same height as I am, so it was a good comparison)

    lots of vertical room

In this picture she told me that her vision was pretty good because it was something that I was concerned with the a-pillars

    and decent seat postion

However when I put jeremy in the car , he is 6 foot, his brain will be hitting the halo, so I think we need to move the seat over about 2 inches towards the passenger side, just in case he wants to drive

Then mr thinkfab came over, and it was time to build the switch box, I wanted the box to be behind my shifter assembly, Rex and I struggled with that damn box for over 6 hours
we started with a straight piece of aluminum and bent it up

We then got side tracked and decided that we should weld up all the holes in the tunnel.
After cutting up steel plates, we welded everything in , that was a joy, because as I was welding, Rex was under the car blowing out the fire

Rex then decided that he wanted to contour the box

Next I built some tabs, for mounting the plate up

and this is the almost complete product with the switches in the box

Jeremy and I then started the wiring, almost 3 hours worth of crap in here

    Rats nest of shit

and finally what it looks like in the car

I am really happy with the way this switch box turned out, the location will be much better for me as well

That was a hell of an update, keep in mind that all this was done, in addition to working on jeremys car which involved, clutch, driveshaft, dumptube refabrication, and a bunch of other miscellaneous crap.
I hope you have enjoyed the story so far, Next up the windsheild bar.
    see ya later.

Last night, I finished up the windshield brace, I wanted to make this piece, while the stock glass windshield was in the car, that way I could contour the strip to the shield. It sits approximately 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch below the windshield. I will be placing a thin piece of foam in between the metal and the lexan, so that scratching will be minimized.

Here is what I ended up making
a view from outside the car

    And from inside.

    Pretty simple stuff here

Next up is the auxilary control/guage panel and the relay panel.
more to come as always., thoughts and comments are always welcome.

Moving on with this damn car,

Rex painted the rear section of the car, and I painted along with the help of my neighbour and Jeremy , the front section. It was quite the process because virtually everything had to be tapped off and removed from the inside.

I am quite pleased with how everything turned out, and finally everything on the inside is one color.

Since brad (chunky) decided to come over and swim, I made him do some work, after his little dip, so While rex and I were fiddling with masking the car, brad painted the windshield bar, it came out pretty well. Good job Brad

I have now begun the wiring process in the car, and as always that is such a fking treat.
    Electronics are hooked up

The passenger section with fuseblock and junction box are completed now

Tonight after work, I will begin the harness for the driver side .

As you can tell in the pictures, the windshield is gone, Jeremy had a hell of a time, pulling that out, We then used my bandsaw to cut up the lexan, this will be going in within the next few days.

and finally the beer shot, because I am slowly turning into an alcoholic, because of this FING car.

have a good one folks and see you all at the shootout.

    Thanks for the updates!

Looks nice with everything all painted up.

I def don't envy you with the wiring work ............ that's my least favorite part of the whole process lol.

    Thanks,

Wiring has got to be the WORST damn thing, especially since I am building my own circuits, where each circuit is fused. Last night the car fired up which I was quite happy about, I think I pissed of the neighbours starting that thing at 9:00 at night LOL.

honestly I think with another solid 5 hours, all the wiring will be completed

I forgot to post up the windsheild stuff that I had finished so here are the pictures.
First up we clekoed it in

then I put in--- my rivet nuts which are M4s

started throwing in the 1/4 inch gasket

however once I placed the windsheild on the car, with the gasket, it would not line up, so I just ditched the gasket altogether, I will have to throw some window weld in there at a later date.
the outside 2 " section of the windsheild, was then roughened up and painted black. Here is the finished product.

    along with the recessed bolts

here is a quick picture of Onondaga strip

and my new hobby, is to start off roading my 1G LOL click on the picture below for video

    Later everyone
