    Default Black vs. Red Turbo

Here's my decision. I'm shipping my car to hawaii where we only have 92 oct. The engine is stroked to 2.3, so I know the down low numbers will be good. Not looking for some high powered beast (yes it would be nice), but something to enjoy my drives to and from work.
What are some of the tuning issues/limitations with 92 oct and having elevation from sea level up to 4k feet. The car will be on the island for at least another 3 years so i'm going to be upgrading anytime soon because i wont have the mad scientist (david) to tune it. I dont want people to just say go with this or go with that, give me pros and cons. the cost isn't much difference between the two.

from what you car describing id say the fp red would be a better turbo for you. It i would be a bit better to drive on the road.

I'd almost thought something happened to you shipping the car, etc. Didn't know what your intentions were now. When are you shipping your car?

No nothing happened to the car...yet (fingers crossed). The battery was dead so Nick hooked me up with a new one. My wife was driving it to make sure everything worked and it died coming into the driveway and wouldnt start. However, she didnt put the new battery in when it got there so I dont know what its status is right now.
Shipping depends on when BR can work on the car. I sent Nick a list of items i'm wanting to purchase and put on, this way I can have an idea of how long the work is going to take and how much the final cost is. Right now everything is being planned for the last week of september or first week of october. The time line can slide to the right if need be, but I'm hoping to firm everything up in the near future. Are you still interested in the turbo swap?

Sure, not a problem mang! I was just waiting on you. That timeline will probably be ideal too.

I'd say go with the Black, no question. Barely any difference in spool and it has more potential.

I was pushing damn near 500 to the wheels on Hawaii's pump gas (used gas from Schofield, 76, and Shell... all other gas on island is crap) at 30psi with no issues.

Where are you gonna be working at? I never saw a difference in power anywhere on island whether I was driving on the H1 at sea level or racing in the pineapple fields up by Schofield Barracks.

I have a great deal on a good fp red so i'm going that route. Working with Mellon tuning to tweak it once I get the car here. I'll be using gas from the bases since they have 92. If for some reason they start getting 93 (doubt it) I'll up the tune.

I work down in Pearl, but live in wahiawa. Once I get the evo here, I would like to meet up with more evo owners on the island. I see one everyday in aiea when I'm getting off of H-1 so I hope to run into them sometime. Is there any good places I could do some pulls for logs?

I think either turbo will be fine. Its very possible to drive everyday with a big turbo also it is very possible to ger stupid fast power from a red. The red has gone 9.99 on a stock motor Evo with some work done. So why not see if you can find good deals and pick one up. GL

DON'T fuck with the gas from the NEX... I knocked like hell using that shit. The gas at Schofield is good (never had an issue). Shell is the best you can get on island followed by 76/Schofield. Chevron and NEX are the worst. Also, the island won't ever see 93... 92 is the best you're gonna get there (unless you go downtown and get the 100 they have on tap at the Shell on King Street).

You should definitely hit up the Shell in Pearl City if you're gonna be working down there anyways.

You signed up on club808 right? I'm pretty sure I've seen you there. Hook up with those guys.

Thats good to know, but sucks about the NEX. I guess youre military, I thought you were one of the locals. Gas is expensive enough on base, I dread thinking about filling up with the prices off base. I may have to fill up sometime down there and get a few logs with the 100. It would be nice to open her up from time to time.

Yeah, I'm on club808 as well. I havent been there in a while though.

    Update.

Date has been set to drop off and begin work on the car. The finalized list is posted. I'll post the numbers after I get them. Before anyone gets their hopes up to see some awesome numbers, understand that the car will be tuned on 92 oct since thats all I got here in Hawaii.

Not all inclusive, some items are not mentioned just supporting mods (evo 8 install kit for fp red)
    FP Red
    Stainless steel 02 housing
    Ported Intake manifold
    BR 65mm Throttle Body
    HKS 280 cams
    1000cc Injectors
    BR Double Pumper
    BR tbe (maybe)
    ecuflash

whats already in the car (not all parts)

    hks racing intake
fp white rabbit turbo w/ stock wastegate
br ported exhaust manifold w/ stock O2 housing
br racing front mount w/all piping (recirc bov)
    stock head
    272intake/264exhaust cams
    2.3 stroke block

the car put down 365hp/380ish tq on 18psi when it was first tuned with a utec. Since then, I've upgraded the fmic and other minor items, but removed and went with ecuflash. However, it wasnt fully tuned due to boost leaks. I'm really excited to see what she puts down. I'm not going to be heartbroken or disappointed with any numbers because this will be the first time she's truely tuned since stroking (ha ha) it. I'll get the numbers and go from there. Personally, I'm going to love just having my car back to drive!!!!

Given the stroker.. I would think(I've been know to be wrong lol) but wouldn't a black be better suited than the red given quick spool due to displacement?
i've seen stock 2.0L with reds spool stupid fast even at low rpms..

i thought abt that to. several factors went into consideration. the two biggest were octane and living in hawaii for the next 5ish years, and i got such a great deal on a slightly used red. So i took it.
