Default Evo wheels vs. FD wheels.

I am seriously considering putting FD wheels on my car and selling my evo wheels.

the fd's are 16x8 and 13lbs, rotational diameter is the same as stock with a 225/50/16

the evo are 17x8 and 20lbs, with 235/45/17 these tires are a bit taller than stock and have a noticable gearing increase.

My reasoning is that lighter is better along with the smaller diameter. The only thing i don't like is that a lot of DSMs run fd wheels and I do like these EVO wheels and I don't really see them that much.

OF course the fd wheels would be getting coated in black.

    Thanks for you input
    Aaron

Are they mainly for just DDing or to fit a Hoosier QTP on for drag duty?

Just remember that they will require a small spacer up front regardless

    SOrry not putting more info.
The car usually sees mostly just DD duty, a lot of street time with 2-4 drag trips a year. I will be trying auto-x soon and maybe road racing, but to be honest the car will get an ass load of DD and street time, thats why I'm leaning to the FD wheels.

Plus function over looks the FD should be better than the EVOs for straight line. I was just hoping for some guys that know more on this subject or have more experience to chime in.

Oops my bad i thought you were asking because you had an Evo as more people are going to that set-up to keep the stock Brembos but i had a brain fart and didn't see your SN and the 1G that goes along with it.

From your post it seems like i offended you or something when i asked for more info i was just trying to help.

The evo wheels look good on your car but I say go with the fd's and save some weight.

Wrong the fd wheels on a 1g need spacers in the rear as well as a little grinding on the controol arms,my fronts fit fine without spacers.

Yes the fd wheels on a 1g need no spacer up front, you have to either run a spacer on the rear or clearance the control arms. l love my fd wheels

How much for those fd rims!?

Also, Is the modification of the the control arm for fd rims apply only to stock control arms or do you need to modify A/M ones, i.e. ingalls adjustable arms?

Did not know there was an aftermarket control arm for a 1G? I know there is an ingalls camber kit, but an entire control arm?

The ingalls rear camber kit for a 1g is a replacement upper control arm with an adjustable sleeve.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
No offense here man. I think i copied that from another thread/board anyways.

I'm not worried about fit, I'm DIY enough to tackle it. I'm just wondering about performance wise.
Doug, shoot me a PM and let me know.

Right now I'm not sure which wheels to get, I have my first auto-x sunday and that will pretty much tell where I am going with it and if I get a buyer or not for my EVO wheels at the right price.

I can get a set of FD wheels with tires locally for $500 or less, (guys is asking $500). There are also a mint set of FD wheels locally for $200.
I'm looking to get a pretty penny out of my wheels and tires if i can. My cousin also has his own shop that is into wheels and tires so I have a hookup there.

However the powdercoating, hmmm. Let me know what you are thinking. Shipping will kill us both

Well the 28Lbs of unsprung weight won't make a difference for a Daily Driver, the loosing an inch of circumference would have to be compensated for by tire size, or your speedo will be off (slow). and you will loose top end speed with smaller wheels if not compensated for by taller tires, which would compromise handling. so it's what you think looks cool...

^Are you sure? No disrespect to you.

Back in teh day I had those ugly stock talon wheels and they weighed in at 40lbs a piece, I switched to the 5 spoke 2G wheels that weigh about 22lbs and the car was noticeably quicker, it def. stopped a lot better.

I'm kinda one of those every little bit helps kinda guys, aren't you sure that 28lbs would help a bit?

Again, no disrespect since you are a racer I'm sure you know a lot more than me.
